2:47pm: stupid flu.
I found out today that I do, in fact, have the flu, even though I got the flu shot a month ago. I went to the doctor this morning, more for my ankle that I hurt in gym class four weeks ago (it doesn't really hurt anymore, but I can't extend it all the way and there is a hard lump on it) than the flu, but any way, when we mentioned that I had the flu in case they wanted me to wait seperately so I wouldn't infect people, the nurse said in this really annoyed voice, "well, MAYBE you should have gotten a flu shot!" As if my flu was somehow a personal offence to her.
Then, later, after the doctor had looked at my ankle and had it x-rayed, he said "it's not broken." and when I asked what I should do to fix it, he just said take motrin if it hurt & for the flu symptoms. I said that it didn't hurt anymore, but what should I do about the bump and the limited range of motion, he said in an angry voice,
" look, if you had stayed in bed and stayed off it it would have healed in 2 weeks, but if you walk on it and put wieght on it, it will take much longer."
This was the first I had heard about it being sprained, and even if I had, who would stay IN BED for two weeks because of a minor injury to their leg? I could understand crutches or something, but that makes no sense.
When I first hurt it, coach Thomson just looked at it and said, "you can walk on it, so it's not broken; you can go get some ice if you want(meaning I could hobble across campus to the main cafeteria from the field in front of the carr building
if I was so inclined )." Based on that assessment, I didn't think it was a major enough injury to stay home even one day, even though it hurt a LOT. I was still concerned about it though, and kept asking my parents if I could get a doctor to look at it. They kept saying that if it was still messed up the next week, we would go.
I finally got to go today, because I was already missing school. sigh.
sorry that was so long, I just had to get that off my chest.
